MOUNT SAVAGE,MARYLAND -- Daniel H. Arnold Jr., 77, of Mount Savage, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Daniel H. and Ruth C. (Miller) Arnold, Sr. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Louis A. Arnold; two sisters, Maude M. Uhl and Mary E. Hack.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he was a member of the 7th Fleet and served on the Amphibious 1492 Patrol Craft as a machinist mate. He served in the last invasion of Okinawa and was present at Pearl Harbor when the Armistice was signed.
Mr. Arnold started his machinist trade at the C&P Shops in Mount Savage. He then was employed at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company where he retired in 1982 with 40 years' experience.
He continued his interest in building and working on antique automobiles where he developed many friendships.
He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church where he was a member of the vestry.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Geraldine E. (Workman) Arnold; two sons, G. Daniel Arnold and wife, Deanna, LaVale, and J. David Arnold and wife, Joyce, Powell, Ohio; three daughters, Janie E. Taccino and husband, Jim, LaVale, Ruthie M. Painter and husband, Kim, Cumberland, Carolyn D. Felten and husband, Terry, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren, George "Chip" Arnold, Lynn Humphrey, Chris Arnold, Nicole Arnold, Corinne Arnold, James Taccino, Shawn Taccino, Stephanie Taccino, Jennifer Taccino, Lisa Painter, Heather Painter, Jeremy Felten and Josh Felten; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Nicholas.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main Street, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St. George's Episcopal Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Arthur R. Lillicropp officiating.
Interment will be in St. George's Episcopal Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Mount Savage V.F.W. Old Rail Post #5025.
Pallbearers will be Andy Blank, Garth Buchholtz, Dwain Gable, Jim Eberly, Ray Tighe and Don Blank.
The family requests memorial contributions be directed to St. George's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
