This is my second great uncle and the brother of my great grandfather, William Henry Arnold, Jr. George's father was, also, named William Henry Arnold and his mother was Mary "Polly" SHOCKLEY Arnold, both of whom were born in Fleming County, Kentucky.
George was born in Van Buren township in Shelby County, IN and was named for his uncle, George Washington Shockley.
While his older brothers fought in the Civil War, George was too young. He lived at home until age 28. However, he, eventually, migrated to Missouri as had several members of his family.
He married Eliza J. SMITH, daughter of James and Rachel WALKER Smith. They were blessed with two children, one son named Van Roy, and a daughter, whom they named, Alta.
George died from stomach cancer at age 81. His wife followed him in death one year later.
He was very much loved and missed by his family and all who knew him.
