A memorial service for Berniece V. Arnhart, who died Jan. 17 at Grande Ronde Hospital at the age of 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Enterprise Cemetery.
Mrs. Arnhart was born to Alvin and Gertrude May Hearing McFetridge on Feb. 7, 1908, in Enterprise. She married Edmund E. Birkmaier on Aug. 23, 1927, and, following his death in 1951, she married Gordon Arnhart on March 27, 1954.
She was active in many community organizations. She was a Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls and a chaperone for the courts of the Wallowa County Fair, and was a staunch supporter of FFA. She was a charter member and the first president of the Wallowa County CowBelles and a member of the Enterprise Christian Church.
She loved the mountains and enjoyed picking huckleberries and helping on the family cattle ranch.
Survivors include her husband of Enterprise; her sons, Alvin Bud Birkmaier of Enterprise and Mack Birkmaier of Joseph; her sister, Orva Gubser of Dayton; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A private family service was held Jan. 20.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice or the Wallowa County Stock Growers and Cattle Women Scholarship in care of Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Enterprise.
