Birth: Oct. 13, 1846
Death: Jan. 24, 1928

Mrs. J.S. Arney
Lucinda Catherine Ryan, daughter of Ira B. and Catherine Porter Ryan, was born in Jones county, Iowa, October 14, 1846 and passed away at the home of her son in Leon January 24, 1928, age eighty-one years, three months and ten days. She was one of a family of twelve children, of whom only one, a brother, T.G. Ryan of Eugene, Oregon, survives her. She was a real granddaughter of the American Revolution, as the records of the war department show that her grandfather, John Ryan, helped in the establishment of American Independence, as a private in the third regiment of Hunterdon county, N.J., in the militia N.J. State Troop 1, also in Havens regiment of the continental army.
At the age of eleven she came with her parents to Leon, where she grew to womanhood. She was married on March 14, 1871, to J.A. Officer, to which union two children were born, Willie who died in infancy, and Ira B. of Leon. By the death of her husband she was left a widow December 2, 1875.
On May 5, 1881 she was married to J.S. Arney to which union four children were born. Walter D. of Grant's, Oregon; Alvin A., of Leon, and George E., of Osceola; one baby dying in infancy. Mrs. Arney was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church early in life and lived a consistent Christian all through her life.
There are left to mourn her departure, four children, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four step children, one brother, beside a host of other relatives and friends. The fact that she buried her husband less than a year ago coupled with her many years, contributed very largely to her last illness and death. Services were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church Thursday afternoon by her pastor, J.E. Habliston. Interment was at the Franklin cemetery.
