George Armstrong was born in Shelby county, Kentucky, August 12, 1804, and died at New Albany, March 19, 1884, aged 79 years 7 months and 7 days. In 1809 his father, Rev. George Armstrong, removed with his family and settled at Lanesville, Harrison County. In 1824 he came to New Albany and engaged in steam boat building and has resided here continuously. In 1827 he was united in marriage to Calista West. By this union two daughters were born to him; one dead, the other, Mrs. Henrietta Deacon, who resides in Little Rock, Ark. In 1834, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Richey. By this union six children were born to him. The living are Charles T. Armstrong, Mrs. D. W. Carpenter, and Eliza Armstrong.
