On 3 May 1898, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Edward C. Armstrong enlisted as a Sergeant with Troop G of the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry. On 7 May, Santa Fe, he mustered into service. He was described as native of Eldorado, Kansas; single, 25-1/12 years old (B: ~Apr 1873), 5 feet 10 inches, light complexion, gray eyes, light hair, and a fireman. On 17 May, he mustered again at a camp near San Antonio, Texas with the same description. On 16 June, he was demoted to Trooper (Private). On 1 July, he was promoted to Corporal. He was later promoted to Sergeant. From 10 Aug to 15 Sep, he was ill. On 15 Sep, he was mustered at Camp Wikoff, Long Island, New York. On 4 Oct 1898, Edward was mustered out of service at New York City. He was described as a resident of Santa Fe. Also annotated was remark to refer to 34 US Volunteer Infantry (Muster Files).
