Phyllis C. Armstrong, 90, of Derby died on September 23, 2012, in Newport.
She was born August 31, 1922, in Holland, a daughter of Riley and Sadie (Judd) Worth.
On June 6, 1958, she married William C. Armstrong, who predeceased her, on August 19, 2012. Her first husband, Sidney L. Perkins, died serving his country in active duty for the Air Force during World War II.
Always a hard worker, Mrs. Armstrong kept herself busy, balancing family, work, and community service. She was a secretary for Union Butterfield in Derby Line, retiring in 1987. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #21 and served for years as Martha in the Order of the Eastern Star. Over the years she gave of her time freely, volunteering with different community organizations, first at the Derby Elementary School, next at the Newport Chamber of Commerce, and in recent years at North Country Hospital, along with her husband, Bill. She was an active member of IROC and also a one-time president of the Community Circle.
As proud grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong made special trips to Massachusetts to help celebrate milestones in their grandchildren's lives, often making the trip down and back in one day, as that was the only way to fit it into their busy schedules. When not occupied with activities outside of the home, Mrs. Armstrong's hobbies included sewing, knitting, hooking rugs, painting, and cooking.
She is survived by her children: Paul Perkins and his wife, Daryl, of Moberly, Missouri, Dana Armstrong and his wife, Margaret, of Princeton, Massachusetts, and Jana Armstrong of Canton, Massachusetts; by her grandchildren: Shelly, Chad, Jacob, Sariah, Eleanor, William, Amelia, Kashaun, and Trey; by four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Abigayle, Beau, and Grace; by her sister Waneta W. Stone of Tallahassee, Florida; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cydney Perkins; by her brother Cyril Worth; and by her sister, Janice Fox.
Visiting hours will be held at noon on Saturday, October 6, followed immediately by funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 37 Lake Road in Newport. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Mead Hill Cemetery in Holland.
