Elsie Mae Armstrong, 86, of Arona, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, in the Greensburg Care Center. She was born April 16, 1917, in Arona, a daughter of the late John and Bessie Errett Oplinger. She was a member of Victory Primitive Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin T. Armstrong; a son, Bill Armstrong; a sister, Hazel Miller; and two brothers, Tom and Jim Oplinger. Surviving are five sons, Ron Armstrong and his wife, Janet, of Greensburg, Stan Armstrong and his wife, Jaye, of Arona, Jim Armstrong and his wife, Penny, of Greensburg, Roy Armstrong and his wife, Jeanne, of Colorado, and Thomas Armstrong, of Greensburg; a daughter, Gloria Snyder and her husband, George, of Altoona; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul and Lester Oplinger, both of Arona; and two sisters, Ruth Gasper and June Bobbs, both of Irwin. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Darrel Evans officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
