"Ex-Alderman John M. Armstrong, who did more than anyone else toward originating and carrying out the ordinance creating Lincoln Park in 1864, is to have his services commemorated by the presentation of an oil portrait of himself to the Chicago Historical Society. The presentation will be made at a banquet given Mr. Armstrong at the Sherman, Nov. 23, his 50th birthday. Some months ago a number of old citizens and friends of Mr. Armstrong conceived the idea of expressing in some suitable way their appreciation of his eminent public services to Chicago."
