Donald Armstrong was part of Gen. Patton's 3rd Army that landed on Utah Beach after D-Day on August 5, 1944. He was in Company C, 1st Battalion of the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division of the 3rd Army. Patton's 3rd Army roared through France from Utah Beach chasing the Germans back to their border and assisted the French in regaining the capitol of Paris. Donald was involved in extremely heavy battle in the French village of Laudrefang less than 10 miles from the border of France and Germany. He was killed in heavy combat on November 22, 1944. The French people in that area are still grateful for the courage of the Americans that defended their area. Donald left a wife and 3 very young children. Thank you for your service, Sir.
