WHITE SALMON - Lucille E. Armstrong, nearly 91 years of age passed away on February 25, 2006, in White Salmon, Washington. Lucille was born in Yakima, Washington on March 2, 1915, to Art and Mamie Davis. She grew up on the family farm on the Lower Ahtanum Road near Union Gap, and was married on May 20, 1937 to Leighton Armstrong who preceded her in death in 1974. The couple resided in Union Gap until they moved their family of 5 children to a small farm near Husum, Washington in 1949.
Lucille loved country living with all the wildlife to see and enjoyed raising pets and a variety of farm animals, a huge vegetable garden, and beautiful flowers. She liked walks in the forest and picking the many wild berries with which she made pies, jams, and jellies of all sorts. She was known for her cooking, which was appreciated greatly by her family and friends. Lucille developed an interest and skill in arts and crafts in her later years, especially enjoying ceramics, oil painting, charcoal drawing, and flower arranging. She also handcrafted many quilts for her grandchildren.
Lucille eventually moved to White Salmon, residing at the Mountain View Care Home at the time of her death. In addition to her husband Leighton, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosemary Austin and Eva Mae Owen. She is survived by her brother Lee Davis of Warden, Washington; daughter Carole Molter of Hefley Creek, British Columbia, Canada and her sons Ron and Darrell of White Salmon, Washington; Mark of Hines, Oregon, and Michael of Eagle Creek, Oregon. Also surviving Lucille are 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Mountain View Home at 1424 Brislawn Loop Road, White Salmon, WA 98672.
At Lucille's request, a private, immediate family graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Cemetery in Yakima at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 3.
