Services for Edith "Eadie" Armstrong, 87, of Lubbock, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Cliff C. Wright and James G. Nunn officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
She died Friday, May 11, 2001.
She was born in St. Louis, Mo., and educated in San Antonio schools and Incarnate Word College. She married Marvin C. Armstrong in San Antonio on Sept. 5, 1936.
She moved to Lubbock two years later and was always active in civic circles. She was a state president of P.T.A., president of the Lubbock Women's Club, was Altrusa Club Woman of the Year and Altrusa Club Woman of the Century. She also was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Heritage Study Club, the Women's Division of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and Chapter CG of P.E.O. She was named honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma, was a Friend of Education at Texas Tech's Department of Education and a member of the Tri Ethnic Council for Lubbock Independent School District.
She was a recipient of the George Mahon Award for a lifetime of extraordinary public service and had served with the YWCA, the Sherick Advisory Board and the Beautify Texas committee as well as working with the Heart Fund, United Way and Cancer Fund drives.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Marvin C. Armstrong Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Helen Watkins, Doris Harper and Ethel Hull, all of San Antonio; and two grandchildren.
