Clara Menetta Armstrong was born March 9, 1870, near Auburn, Nemaha County, Nebraska, the daughter of Marhsall J. and Mary A. (Dye) Armstrong.
Clara was the oldest of four children. When her mother died of consumption in 1884, Clara took over the care of the family.
Clara married Henry Vaughn Black on February 10, 1887, in Auburn, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Henry was born June 2, 1867, in Grant Precinct, Richardson County, Nebraska, the son of Richmond Vaughn and Eliza (Smedley) Black. They had the following known children:
1. Clarence Edgar Black (1887-1960)
2. Evelin Eliza (Black) Snodgrass (1889-1984)
3. Lena Letitia (Black) Huston (1892-1988)
4. Eugene Vaughn Black (1894-1941)
5. Harold Cavarah Black (1896-1926)
6. Vern Marshall Black (1899-1978)
7. Louella M. (Black) 1) Pautz 2) Bradley (1903-1967)
8. Elvira Jane "View" (Black) McCann (1905-1989)
9. Clara Loye (Black) Alexander (1908-2003)
Clara was a member of the Christian Church. She also spent much time caring for the sick and the new born babies. After the death of her husband Henry on August 20, 1934, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska, Clara moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to some of her children.
Clara died July 20, 1956, in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska.
