Harold Stephen Armstrong, 87, of Marblehead, died Oct. 12 in Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Effie (Hardwick) Armstrong.


Mr. Armstrong, the son of the late Sumner B. and Mary J. (Belyea) Armstrong, was born in Lynn Oct. 21, 1913, and attended and graduated from Lynn schools. He was employed as a clerk manager with General Electric for 40 years, retiring in 1977.


A resident of Marblehead since 1945, Mr. Armstrong was very active with Marblehead Council of Aging and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1990.


He leaves his son, William H. Armstrong of Hollywood, Fla., two grandchildren, Ainsley Armstrong and Ian Armstrong, both of Florida, and a brother, Frank Armstrong of Lynn. He was the father of the late Elaine M. Shaw and Jeanne A. Armstrong.


His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 18, in the Richardson Funeral Home (at Goldfish Pond), 48 Lafayette Park, Lynn. The Rev. E. Holt Hughes will officiate. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
