the faith" (H Timothy 4:7).
These words taken from the Holy Bible exemplify the life of Dr. Robert L. Armstrong Sr. On Thursday morning October 23, 1998, Dr. Armstrong entered his eternal rest.
Born February-17, 1935, in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Armstrong was educated in the La Marque Public School System and furthered his education at Tuskeegee Institute Prairie View A&M University and the University of Houston. He was a lifelong member of McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church in La Marque where he served faithfully in the Music Department. In 1977, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the La Marque Independent School System serving 21 years until his demise. His affiliations also include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity: Tuskeegee Alumni, an avid La Marque Cougar fan, the Ecumenical Prayer Partners Hall of Fame and many other community and social activities. He served as Assistant Dean of Technology at Prairie View A&M University until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jacob E. Armstrong Sr., sister Nell Armstrong and a brother Louis H. Armstrong.
Left to celebrate his victory are his wife, Donnie Armstrong of Texas City his children, Lee Harvey Purvis of Abilene, Robert L. Armstrong, Jr., Angela Armstrong both of Texas City, Dr. Robin Armstrong and wife Martha of Galveston and Cedric Armstrong of Texas City; his mother Mrs. Maggie E. Armstrong of La Marque his sisters and brothers Helen (William) Kairy of Oakland, California; Claudia Hamilton of La Marque, Dorothy Marshall of Baltimore, Maryland, Jacob £. (Ella) Armstrong, Jr. of La Marque and Harold (Mary Francis) Armstrong of Houston; six grandchildren, one great grandchild; his extended family the Dunbar Watson Family of Texas City, and a host of nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. A wake will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church, 1607 Nashby, La Marque Texas. The family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at the church
A Service of Praise and Thanksgiving for the life of Dr. Robert L. Armstrong Sr. will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27th at McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin L. Jiles, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
