Ralph D. Armstrong, 82, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at the Veterans Home following a short illness. Memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters [private] and Sheryl Armstrong-Shanahan of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Theo Mallard, and a brother, Richard, both from California. He is survived by six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ralph was born June 13, 1925, in Linn County, the son of Samuel and Beulah Rawson Armstrong. He married Ruth M. Clark on May 31, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died in 1999.
Ralph was a mechanic at Iowa Manufacturing and retired from there after more than 36 years of services. He was a member of the Eagles Club, VFW Post No. 788, the Machinist Union and he proudly served in the Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
A memorial fund has been established in Ralph's name.
