ARMSTRONG, CHARLES STEVEN "STEVE" - age 62 of Strawberry Plains passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2014. Steve was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was in the US Army Reserves for six years, worked at ORNL for 33 years (retiring in 2012), and belonged to the IBEW Local 760. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, watching UT men's basketball, and being outdoors (mountains, fishing, and "piddling"). More than anything, he loved helping others but never wanted the recognition. Steve was a hard-working, kind-hearted, gentle man who will be missed more than words can say. Preceded in death by father, Fred Lee Armstrong. Survived by wife, Jean Armstrong; daughters, Kelli White and husband Jason, Traci Hartsell and husband Brent; step-children, Sean Russell and Monica Bague, Aaron Russell, Heather Bumby and husband Jeremiah; mother, Bobbie Armstrong Horner; sisters, Kaye Yarnell and husband Roger, Sue McLain and husband Mike, Rita Reynolds and husband Randy, Sherry Robinson and husband Bill; uncle and best friend, Joe Armstrong; granddaughters Emma Brown and Halle Hartsell; grandson (on the way), Brady Charles White; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special canine companion, Pupper. Thank you to the physicians and staff at Tennessee Cancer Specialists, with special thanks to Paula Dugger. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your preferred charitable organization or to the American Cancer Society at 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bridges Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow with Pastors Russ Young and Don Watkins officiating. Interment will take place at Caledonia Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014. Arrangements by Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 865-523-4999. www.bridgesfuneralhome.com
