Sofia Armijo, age 81, a resident of Belén, joined our Lord on Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Sofia was a member of Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church and for many years a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
For over 40 years, she worked the voting polls during elections at Central School Elementary. Sofia was an avid bowler and proudly competed in many National and State tournaments bringing home her prized trophies for over 36 years. Sofia continued to bowl enthusiastically until October of 2000.
Sofia also loved playing bingo but her first passion was her family. Sofia loved her family and passed on her cooking skills for two generations.
Sofia was preceded in death by her husband, Pasqual Sr., her year-old son, Pasqual, her father, Juan Espiñosa, four brothers, Freddie Disiderio Espiñosa, Tedoro and Joe Olguín and one sister, Cecilia Espiñosa.
Sofia is survived by her children, Jake and his wife, Emelda of Albuquerque, Carmen Montoya and her husband, Floyd Montoya of Tomé, Pasqual and his wife, Lydia, Ernest and his wife, Kathy and Alfredo and his wife, Flora, all of Belén, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one sister, Petra Morris of Arizona, one brother-in-law, Joe K. Armijo and his wife, Ruth of Arizona, three sisters-in-law, Ramona Mascarena and her husband, Eloy of Albuquerque, Ernestina Córdova and her husband, Ben of Clovis and Elaria Martínez of Arizona and her two aunts, Emma Márquez and Carmen Baca and her husband, Doroteo, both of Adelino. Sofia is also survived by a very dear friend, Margaret Salazar.
Friends and family may call on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church with Interment at Our Lady of Belén Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Teresa Armijo, Mark Armijo, Pasqual Armijo III, Ernest Armijo Jr. Romolo Armijo, Darin Armjo, Adam Armijo and Joey García. Honorary Pallbearers will her son-in-law, Floyd, her four daughters-in-law, Emelda Armijo, Lydia Armijo, Kathy Armijo and Flora Armijo, five Godsons, Felipe Orosco, Gene Gallegos, Tommy Durán, Felipe Mascarena and Ben Córdova. After services, friends and family members are asked to join the family at Pasqual Armijo residence.
