Abel B. Armijo, 82, a resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico, for the past five years, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. He was born to Louis and Josepha Armijo on June 18, 1933, in Las Palomas, New Mexico.
Abel was a devoted and active member of the Catholic Church and his faith. He was a lifelong member of Boles Acres Lions Club, Moose Lodge, Elks Club and the Sierra County Sheriff's Posse, where he served as a board member. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a national delegate member of LULAC.
Abel proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, and then continued to serve his country in the Army National Guard for 35 years. He worked for the civil service on Holloman Air Force Base, from which he retired in 1988. After which, he moved back to "his" God's country (Truth or Consequences, New Mexico).
Besides his family, Abel enjoyed horses, ranching, cowboying, hunting and in his younger days, team roping.
Abel is survived by his beloved children, Veronica A. Wingenroth (Kent) of Las Cruces, Leticia N. Ruiz (Jose) of Alamogordo, Abel A. (Ellen Seagel) of Anchorage, Alaska, Barbara Jo Black (Odie) of Las Cruces, and Matthew Armijo Orosco (Chantal) of Caballo, New Mexico. Abel was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Louis Rudolpho "Rudy" B. Armijo (Magdalena "Nena") of T. or C.; three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded into Heaven by his father, Louis P. Armijo; mother, Josepha Baca Armijo; brother, Silas B. Armijo; and his dearest sister-in-law, Neomi T. Armijo.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kirikos Family Funeral Home Chapel. A prayer vigil will follow at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, led by Deacon Adam Sanchez. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at 10 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Don Hyatt, CSB. Rite of committal will follow in Hot Springs Cemetery.
