Services for Doris Arledge Alston will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Dr. Raymon Leake and Brother Matt Snowden officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Alston passed away on Friday June 12, 2009, of complications from ALS. She was born April 10, 1935, in Newton County. She graduated from Bullah Hubbard School in 1953. In 1968 she returned to school in Fayetteville, N.C. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Meridian. She enjoyed working in the garden and the yard every summer and was an outstanding seamstress. She was a loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always willing to help and be supportive wherever she was needed. She will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Albert N. Alston; two daughters, Wanda Lingerfelt and her husband Gary, and Brenda Holland and her husband Mike; one grandson, Troy Holland; five step- grandsons, Junior, Broque, Conrad, Brandon, and Coleman Lingerfelt; two sisters, Lois Smith and Evangline Barnette; two brothers; sister-in-law, Mary Arledge; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack Arledge and Leslie Goforth Arledge; two brothers, Lavern "Duge" Arledge and Jimmy Arledge; and four sisters, Mamie Goss, Lora Pinson Shepard, Luna Burke, and Ruby Scarbrough.Pallbearers will be Benny Harrison, Charles Harmon, Harry Little, Jack Jackson, Wayne Ainsworth, and Barry Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd King and the Pilgrim Sunday School Class.Visitation will be Sunday, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
