Arthur F. Arens, 87, of Austin, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Care Center.
He was born Aug. 24, 1913, to Joseph and Mary (Mayer) Arens.
He married Jean Wolfe Sept. 2, 1939, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
He served in World War II and is a survivor of the USS Rutledge.
He worked for Hormel Foods for almost 48 years, was a master woodworker and loved fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Arens, Austin; three daughters, Carol O'Brien, Fox Point, Wis.; Jeanne Dolan, Cologne; JoAnne Fuller and her husband, Bill, Austin; two sons, Richard and his wife, Barb, Rochester; Terry Arens, Austin; a daughter-in-law, Jeannette Johnson and her husband, Roger, Hinckley; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marion Raker and her husband, Louie, Austin; Jeannette Mittag, Austin; sister-in-law, Lorraine Arens, Austin.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Artie Joseph.
Service: A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with the Father Virgil Duellman officiating. Casket bearers will be Rich Arens, Terry Arens, Duane Arens, Jim Arens, Scott O'Brien and Ronnie Majerus.
Visitation: 7:30 p.m. wake service today, at Mayer Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 91 and Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 1216.
