Mrs. John Arens, Dies at Kellogg
Came to Wabasha in 1869, was one of County’s Oldest Residents. Funeral Last Saturday

Mrs. Amelia Arens, one of the oldest residents in Wabasha County, passed away at the home of her son, Matt, in Kellogg, Thursday, September 26; infirmities of advanced age was the cause of death. Deceased was born at Baden-Baden, Germany, May 24, 1853. She came to the United States at the age of 16, coming to Wabasha by boat in 1869. In the year 1875, she married John Arens at Wabasha. Mr. and Mrs. Arens lived on their farm in Greenfield Township until 28 years ago when they took up their residence in Kellogg. On January 10, 1935 the death of Mr. Arens occurred, and she lived alone until 1941. In that year Mrs. Arens was stricken with paralysis and from that time on she lived with her son, Matt, in Kellogg. During the last year she was confined to her bed. Mrs. Arens was a deeply religious person, attending Mass every day until she was unable to walk. From then on she got much enjoyment from saying the Rosary. Deceased is survived by two daughters Mrs. Barbara Sullivan, Wabasha and Mrs. Margaret Marking, Kellogg, and one son, Matt Arens of Kellogg. Other survivors are one sister, Mrs. Bridget Binner of Wabasha. The funeral services were from St. Agnes church in Kellogg, Saturday morning, September 28th. The service was conducted by Rt. Rev. Msgr. B. A. Kramer. The Altar Society, of which she was a member, attended the last rites in a body. Burial was in St. Felix cemetery. The pall bearers were six grandchildren; Joe and John Sullivan, Ervin and Ted Marking, Odell and William Arens. Friends and relatives from out-of-town attending the last rites were, Elmer Marking and family of Winona; Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Costello, St. Paul, R. A. Robert, Minneapolis, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sullivan, Morton.
