MRS. CARRIE AREND Mrs. Carrie Arend, 1031 South Main street, died in the Decatur and Macon County hospital shortly before noon Saturday immediately following an operation for goitre. She had been taken to the hospital Friday evening. Her condition was said to have been very serious, and the operation was performed only in an effort to save her life.
Mrs. Arend had been a resident of Decatur for the past seven years. With her family she had moved to this city from Humbolt township, where she was born on July 6, 1877. She was 47 years of age at the time of her death. Twenty-six years ago she was married to George Arend who survives her. She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira McGee, of Decatur; three daughters and as many sons, Mrs. Blaine Murray, Mrs. Ruth Williams, Mrs. Helen Dressen, Chester, Harry and Dale Arend, all of Decatur; one sister, Mrs. Maud Gamel, of California; and two brothers, Frank McGee nf Humbolt; and George McGee of Peoria.
Mrs. Arend was a member of the Methodist church. The body was taken to the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel there at 10 o'clock this morning. The body will be taken to Humbolt where further services will be conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Methodist church.
