Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 at an 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas for Birdie Lee Ardoin, age 77, the former Birdie Lee Brown, who passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. The Rev. James Brady, pastor of St. Landry Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Soloist will be Tammy Lynn Maturin. The songs will be The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, Take My Hand Precious Lord, and Just A Closer Walk With Thee.

Mrs. Ardoin was a native of Morrow and a resident of Opelousas for most of her life. She worked at Roy Motors and Dimmicks Supply as a bookkeeper and was the co-owner/operator of Ardoin's Grocery in Opelousas for 18 years. Mrs. Birdie was also district manager with Security Plan Life Insurance, where she won numerous awards and vacations. After working with Security Plan, she ran a mobile retail business throughout the surrounding parishes. She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi - Zi Alpha Alpha, Civic League, and LA Sertoma. Mrs. Birdie was a parishioner of St. Landry Church. She enjoyed arts and crafts, making quilts, and sewing. She was a devoted and very active mother and grandmother, who supported all her children throughout their endeavors.

Survivors include three sons, Lloyd Ardoin, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, Wayne Ardoin and his wife, Kay, and Tony Ardoin and his wife, Melody, all of Opelousas; one sister, Gladys Ardoin and her husband, Burnley "Blanc", of Opelousas; one sister-in-law, Patsy David Brown of Opelousas; eight grandchildren, Scott Ardoin, Kelley Fernandez and her husband, Richard, Dustin Ardoin and his wife, Gina, Alexis Ardoin, Sarah Richard and her husband, Neal, Ben Ardoin, Joshua Ardoin, and Anna Ardoin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Lloyd Ardoin, Sr.; her parents, Charlie F. Brown and Elizabeth Johnson Brown; and one brother, J. C. Brown.

A rosary will be prayed Friday at 7:00 p.m.in the funeral home, by Deacon Sammy Diesi.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Ardoin, Jr., Wayne Ardoin, Tony Ardoin, Larry Weeks, Dustin Ardoin and Ben Ardoin. Honorary pallbearers will be Burnley "Blanc" Ardoin, Tommy Leach, Ronnie Ardoin, Carl Weeks and Mike Weeks.
