Monte Vista resident Lazaro Archuleta, 78, passed away September 25, 2010 at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver.

Lazaro was born on May 1, 1932 in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the son of Lazaro Archuleta and Simonita Maez Archuleta. Lazaro was a member of the SPM D.T.U., he enjoyed fishing, working, being outdoors and the time he spent with his loving family.

Survivors include his companion Nora M. Duran of Monte Vista, Colo; daughters Joyce (Phillip) Garcia of Monte Vista, Colo; Georgia Gallegos of Center, Colo; Kathy (Frank) DeHerrera of Pueblo, Colo; Margaret (John) Jenks of Colorado Springs, Colo; son John (Gail) Archuleta of Colorado Springs, Colo; and those he knew him as "Pops"; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sisters Cordelia Segura, and Marina (Jose) Martinez both of Center, Colo. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lazaro was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary L. Archuleta, Morales, sisters Ortilia Garcia, Carmen Quintana, Emilia Barlett, Edellia Archuleta and Andrita Sisneros.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
