Lottie Mae Archer Aker, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. Interment followed in the West End Cemetery. She was born in Wythe County, daughter of the late John A. & Bessie Archer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar L. Aker; a brother, Robert R. Archer Sr.; two sons, Robert F. Aker and George E. Aker; and two sons-in-law, Harry E. Mabe, and Donald M. Umberger. Survivors include two daughters, Christine A. Mabe of Tazewell, and Juanita A. Umberger of Wytheville; two granddaughters & spouses, Kay U. & Gary McAlister of Wytheville, and Bernelle E. & Eddie Mabe of Tazewell; eight grandsons & spouses, H. Elwood & Judy Mabe of Tazewell, Barry M. & Sharon Umberger, Terry L. & Connie Umberger, Eddy K. & Joy Umberger, Ricky F. & Gabey Umberger, Jody K. & Lisa Umberger, all of Wytheville, Gregory F. & Peggy Aker of Charlotte, NC, and Kevin T. Aker of Greensboro, NC; two daughters-in-law, Martha C. Aker, and Shirley G. Aker, both of Wytheville; and 16 great-grandchildren. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
