Ethel was born in Lincoln,NE and died in Overland Park, KS. Oldest of the six children (all daughters) of Daniel & Elizabeth Brynes. Daniel was a baker in a hotel in Lincoln. Ethel met Charles Evan Arburn (a native of Princeton, IN) at a theater in Lincoln where he was working while attending the University of Nebraska. They married and moved to Omaha just before the beginning of World War Two.
Charles went off to war, in the Army. Ethel worked in the famed Martin Bomber Plant at Bellevue, NE. She was in quality control; her particular job was to test the guns on each new B-26 Martin Marauder bomber built for the war. After the war they continued to live in Omaha.
Son Michael Evans was born in Omaha July 4, 1944. He married Linda and they had a daughter Michelle. Michael was killed in June 1969 when he and his wife were passengers in a car that struck a tree in Fontenelle Park in Omaha.
That death took a severe toll on Ethel's inner being; and then just four years later, in May 1973 her husband Charles died of lung cancer. Ethel's emotional well-being never quite recovered from those two great losses. She had great emotional and relationship stresses as her years progressed. She became almost reclusive. Life was hard for her.
In 2000 she moved to Overland Park, KS to be near her only surviving child, Kevin, who cared for her in her late years.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, her son Michael, her parents, and one sister, Ruth (in 1999). She is survived by her son Kevin, his wife Joan and three grandchildren, Chrissy Hogan, Matt Arburn and Michelle Winegar; and by four sisters, LaRue Hill, Deanna Miller, Lynn Stahr and Patra Vacanti.
Ethel's cremains were buried in Section 29 Meditation, next to the graves of her husband her her son Michael.
