Deceased Name: Farming leader Harold Todd Arant of Bowman dies

Harold Todd Arant, 65, of 3241 Homestead Road, Bowman, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Bowman Southern Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roy Wolfe, the Rev. Martin Clark, the Rev. Dr. Bill Davidson and the Rev. Gary Briden officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bowman.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, James Smoak, Daniel Smoak, Edwin Smoak, Michael Smoak, Andy Smoak and Rogers Haden Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Harrison, John Felder, Landy Weathers, Ken Jones, Hugh Weathers, Larry Patrick and Ronnie Weathers.
Mr. Arant was born in Bowman, a son of George Harold Arant and Catherine Berry Arant. He was the owner of Triple A Farms. Mr. Arant graduated from Bowman High School in 1955 and Clemson University in 1959. In 1996 he was inducted into the Dairy Hall of Fame at Clemson University. In 1976 he was S.C. Young Farmer of the Year.
Mr. Arant served as state president of the S.C. Young Farmers, and was a member of Bowman Young Farmers. He was a past president of Orangeburg County Farm Bureau and was on the S.C. Farm Bureau Dairy Executive Committee.
Mr. Arant was a member of the National Dairy Board, member of the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Co-op. He served as a member and past chairman of the Orangeburg County Farm Services Agency.
He was a member of Bowman Southern Methodist Church, where he served as a member and chairman of the Board of Stewards, and was a member of the New Genesis Sunday school class, and member of the Men's Cartwright Fellowship. He served on the Southern Methodist Church Board of Administration. Mr. Arant served on the Board of Brookland Plantation, and was a member of the Southern Methodist Camp Properties Board. He served on the board of directors at First Union National Bank and served as sub-board member at Bowman Academy.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margie Smoak Arant of the home; his mother and father of Bowman; children, Mr. and Mrs. Perry (Dayle) Arant of Orangeburg, Mr. and Mrs. Hal (Kathy) Arant of Bowman, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Beth) Turner of Bowman; grandchildren, Todd Arant, Tyler Arant, Brent Arant, Liz Turner, Marla Arant and Hayne Turner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the residence, 3241 Homestead Road, Bowman.
