Lucia passed away on Friday, April 12, 2002.
Lucia married Pablo Mares on April 3, 1933.
Lucia is survived by her husband, Pablo, a retired music teacher and composer/musician, children, Patricia Mares-Mischke and Paul Mares and his wife, Patricia, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sisters, Ruth Gutiérrez and Bernice Adams and her husband, Dow and 12 nieces and nephews.
Lucia was a caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lucia gave of her time, talents and energy to all who knew her. Lucia was also a great bookkeeper and a talented artist. Lucia painted and made clay sculptures of life in early Hispanic New Mexico. Twelve of her popular works, "Abuleitos y Abuelitos" were purchased by the Smithsonian Museum.
Lucia and her husband, Pablo traveled and visited 21 foreign countries in their lifetime. Lucia was also active in the Pan American Club, Catholic Daughters of America, the Feria Artesana and played bridge.
Lucia will be greatly missed for she was a great lady but her truly Christian spirit will live on in special ways for each of us.
The Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 15, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, with Father Johnny Lee Chávez officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, on Monday, April 15, 2002 starting from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary.
