Almeda is the daughter of Sydney Smith Apt and Ruth Sophie Christopher and the wife of William McGrath.She married William in 1881 in Victoria Beach,Annapolis Co.,NS.They are the parents of ten children all born in Port Wade,Annapolis,Nova Scotia:

Mrs Almeda McGrath, esteemed resident of Port Wade, died Saturday evening, Oct 2 at the home of her son, Archie McGrath. She was the widow of the late Captain William McGrath, who predeceased her some 45 years ago. She was born at Waldeck East 91 years ago, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Smith Apt. For a time following her marriage she and her husband lived at Victoria Beach, later moving to Port Wade where most of their 12 children were born. She leaves 1 daughter, Carrie, Mrs Charles McWhinnie of Port Wade and 3 sons: Ernest McGrath, Granville Ferry, and Robert and Archie of Port Wade. A son, William, died in June of this year and a son Percy on March 16th. Five daughters, Lottie, Gladys, Elsie, Annie and Marion and a son Robbie also predeceased her. She leaves a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs McGrath was the last surviving member of her family. A sister, Mrs Mary McGrath and 3 brothers, James Apt, Captain John Apt and Norman Apt predeceased her.
