FORT WORTH -- Isabelle Appling, 82, a retired Civil Service employee, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Rev. Barry Holmes and Rev. John C. Johnson officiating. Burial: Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born April 4, 1921, in Mineral Wells, to Franklin A. and Ivy McAdams Appling. The family moved to Parker County in 1926. She graduated from Garner High school in 1938, and attended Gatlin Business School in Weatherford. After World War II began, she moved to the Washington D.C. area, where she worked as a civil service employee of the War Department until 1946. At that time, she accepted a position with the Army, assigned to Vienna, Austria. During that time, she had an opportunity to visit France, Italy, Switzerland, England, and Germany. When her assignment ended in Europe, she returned to the Fort Worth-Dallas area, and retired from the Army recruiting station in Dallas in 1976. Following her retirement, she returned to Millsap, Parker County, to make her home. She was a member of Holders Chapel Methodist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors: Sister, Nona Debusk of Fort Worth; Niece, Nancy Webster and husband, Jerry, of Fort Worth; nephew, Bryan DeBusk and wife, Karen, of Arlington; great-niece, Leslie DeBusk of Arlington; great-nephew, Clayton DeBusk of Arlington.
