Born: Munford, near Oxford, Alabama
Mary was one of seven daughters of William Washington and Mary Melinda (Mollie) Bigby. She was nicknamed Lida. Her mother's parents were William Bradford and Eliza Biddle Mashburn. From Buckingham Co., Va, the Bigby family went to near Anderson and Abbeville, SC about 1798. Variations of the spelling or Bigbee, Bigbie an Bigsby and also Bagby. About 1848 Oliver Bigbee, Mary's grandfather moved his family to Munford, Ala. He was called Ollie and he married Mary Clement, daughter of Hugh Clement. Mary was named for both of her Grandmothers.
Mary (Lida) Bigby grew up near Oxford, Alabama and taught school one year before going to Texas in 1891 to visit a sister whose husband was pastor of the Baptist Church at Trinity Valley. While teaching at Patrick School near there she met Allen Petty Apperson and they fell in love. In the meantime, her parents moved to Texas and settled in a small community near Cedar Hill, Texas, and the wedding took place in their home.

In 1916 the Apperson family moved to near the town of Madill, Ok. Her husband died there January 24, 1925 from injuries received by being kicked by a young mule he was trying to break to harness.

Mary died in Dallas following a long illness from cancer.

Obit: (Published Dallas Morning News Oct 18, 1957) Mrs Lida Apperson Funeral services for Mrs Lida Bigby Apperson, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lamar & Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 West Jefferson, with the Rev Gid J Bryan officiating.
Burial will be in Trinity Valley Cemetery in Wilmer.
Mrs Apperson died Wednesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs Leonard Wilson Sr., 7216 South Lancaster.
She was born near Oxford, Ala., and moved to Texas in 1890, teaching for two years in the old pioneer school house in Patrick Community near Wilmer.
Survivors besides Mrs Wilson include a son Leland B Apperson Sr, of Hutchins; another daughter, Mrs Vera A English of Philadelphia, Pa; two sisters, Mrs Frances B Stone and Mrs R L Roberts of Dallas; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, L L Wilson Jr., Robert E James, L B Apperson Jr., Rawlins Apperson, Jack L Apperson and John D Yowell.
