Mrs. Margaret M. Appelhanz, 59, 328 Sumner, died Saturday in a Topeka hospital where she underwent heart surgery Friday. She was admitted to a Topeka hospital Feb. 18 for treatment of a heart ailment and was transferred to another hospital Feb. 25.
She was born Nov. 16, 1916 in Topeka where she spent most of her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society at the church.
She was married to Ralph C. Appelhanz April 20, 1937. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Ralph Appelhanz, Kansas City, Kan., and Richard Appelhanz, 316 Sumner; and six daughters, Mrs. Margaret Barba, 1609 W. 37th Ter., Mrs. Patricia Burghart, 3831 S. Park, Mrs. Josephine Robinson, Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Mary Anne Haag, 2308 Moundview Drive, Mrs. Ruth Anne Phillips, Route 2, Scranton, and Paulette Appelhanz, at home.
Also surviving are a brother, John Puhl, 2007 Seward; seven sisters, Tillie Puhl, 2007 Seward, Mrs. Mary Habig, 2001 Seward, Mrs. Barbara Schiffelbein, 4008 W. 23rd, Mrs. Josephine Schiffelbein, 621 Branner, Mrs. Sue Burghart, 524 W. 5th, Mrs. Marcella Grace, 409 Sumner, and Mrs. Agnes Schiffelbein, 320 Sumner, and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Appelhanz will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Brennan Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by the parish at 7 p.m. and by Knights of Columbus at 7:15 p.m. Monday.
