Isaac M. Anthony, prominent among Queen Anne's County farmers and who retired several years ago, died of a heart attack at the home of his son, Sheriff J. Elmer Anthony in Centreville, Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. In failing health since he fell and injured a hip in February, he had been bedfast for the last ten days.
Mr. Anthony had passed his 79th birthday on May 11. Born in Caroline County in 1855 and a son of the late Joseph Anthony and Nancy Cooper Anthony, his family moved here when he was ten years old and he had spent virtually his entire life in and near town.
Known as a hard worker and quiet, dignified man, he had earned the high respect of everyone and was considered one of the county's most substantial citizens. Despite his advanced years he was still active and working at the time he slipped and fell on the sleet last February.
His wife, the former Miss Susan Catherine Godwin, also of this county, preceded him to the grave thirteen years ago. Surviving are six sons and two daughters: J. Howard Anthony, J. Elmer Anthony, I. Hill Anthony, Charles E. Anthony, Claude B. Anthony, all of Centreville, Harry C. Anthony, of Richmond, Va.; Mrs. Frank M. Buckingham, and Mrs. Edward Jones, both of Baltimore. Donald M. Anthony, attached to the Marine Corps in the World War, was killed in action at Chateau Thierry. A daughter, Eva, died in childhood.
He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, one brother, C. Howard Anthony, and two sisters, Mrs. Parker Baldwin and Mrs. Marie Bitting, of Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be held this morning, Thursday, at 11 o'clock from the home of Sheriff Anthony. The Rev. Roy Thawley, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which Mr. Anthony was a member for the past half century, will conduct the services. Burial will take place in the family plot in Chesterfield Cemetery. His six sons will act as pallbearers.
