Ebenezer & Permelia divorced sometime after 1850, where he was enumerated in the Federal Census in Lockport, Niagara County, NY as a shoemaker. He left his children in New York, and moved to Illinois where he started a new life as a farmer, marrying Angeline Jontz Landis on October 12, 1855 in Princeton, Bureau County, IL. Together they had 5 known children, with only 2 surviving to adulthood.
