Melba Darleen Bose Anson died on June 5, 2008 in Baytown. She succumbed after a long illness.
She was born in New Braunfels, on December 28, 1933 to Roland Bernard and Melba Posey Bose.
Mrs. Anson is preceded in death by her husband, William Anson, her parents, her grandmother, Mrs. Olinska Sipple Posey and her aunt, Mrs. Roberta Posey Mueller.
She is survived by her daughters, Darilyn Anson of Spring and Roxolyn Anson of Baytown. Also, her brother, Robert Bernard Bose of Plano, her sister, Roxolin Bose Krueger of New Braunfels, brothers Larry Bose of Houston and Ronnie Bose and wife Barbara who live in Bay City. There are many dearly loved nieces, nephews and great friends.
Melba is a descendant of the von Boses and the Gruenes, who were among the original settlers of New Braunfels and Gruene, Texas.
Bill and Melba were married in New Braunfels in 1952 while he was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. After his discharge they moved to Island Park, New York. Bill's company, Merril Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Bean transferred him to Pasadena, California where they lived for 18 years and welcomed their daughters, Darilyn and Roxolyn, into this world. Bill's business moved the family to Baytown in 1969.
Melba was raised in the First Evangelical and Reformed Church of New Braunfels and later was a member of Grace United Methodist in Baytown. She was an active Girl Scout Leader and worked with the church youth group during her daughters' youth.
In 1974 she was hired by the school district as a Plan A teacher aide and assigned to Cedar Bayou Junior School. Later she transferred to Bowie Elementary where she was the attendance clerk for many years. She became the secretary to the English/Science Coordinators, then to Staff Development Department, the Executive Director of Secondary Education and then to secretary to Executive Director of Elementary Education. She retired from the district after 28 years of service.
While employed by the school district Melba was active with the Baytown Educational Support Association. She served as president for four years and in every elected office as well as committees and committee chairman. She also served on many district committees.
Melba was actively involved with the Baytown Area Retired School Employees Association, holding many offices and enjoying luncheons. She enjoyed day trips and traveling with Lee College. She also enjoyed her involvement with the Scarlett Ya Yas and the Red Hat Society.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Navarre Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Goodell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Navarre Funeral Home.
