OBIT: (Herald-Voice, Belle Center, Ohio: 05-09-1927)
LYDIA ELLA ANSLEY (ALLEN) was born September 2, 1859 in Hardin county near Ridgeway, the daughter of Charles and Mary Ansley. She died May 9 at the family home in Belle Center after an illness of almost two years, an ordeal that she passed through with rare courage and fortitude.
In her early youth she became a member of the M. P. church at Grassy Point, and throughout her life, she never wavered in her church affiliations and Christian duties. She was united in marriage to William Allen, March 17, 1875, and they established their home in Hardin county, living there until ten years ago, when they moved to Belle Center. To this union seven children were born: Alice Bailey who preceded her mother in death, having died in 1907; Charles A. Allen of Detroit, Michigan; Starley J. Allen, of Lewistown; Emma McAlexander, of Belle Center; Joseph Allen, of New Richland; and Lena Layton, of Richmond, Indiana. When Mrs. Allen became a resident of Belle Center, she transferred her church membership to the local Methodist church and when in good health, took an active part in all church activities.
Besides her immediate family, and a host of friends to mourn her departure, is a sister, Mrs. Mollie Case, of Harbor Springs, Michigan; a brother, J. R. Ansley, of Ridgeway; 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, George and Charles Ansley having preceded her in death. Funeral was held at the M. E. church, Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. in charge of Rev. Ballinger. Burial in Hale Cemetery.
