ISLE OF PALMS – Lt. Col Legare Ansel, 64 (USA ret) a retired captain with the security force at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Col. Ansel was born in Walhalla, a son of the late George Martin Ansel and Harriet Legare Ansel. He also worked with the S.C. Highway Departement.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Baldwin Parish Ansel of Isle of Palms; four brothers, John M. and George M. Ansel, Jr. of Walhalla; Neville D. Ansel of Senecca and Irvine L. Ansel, Sr. of Vicksburg, Miss. and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Connelley Funeral Home in Charleston with burial at 3 p.m. Sunday in St Johns Lutheran Churchyard in Walhalla.
