Barry Dhu Annis, age 65, of 1115 South Highway E, town of Linwood, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at his home with his family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Barry’s positive outlook and sense of humor helped him and his family through his illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point with Rev. Jim Trainor officiating. Burial will be in the Town of Laona Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services at the funeral home. The Loyal Order of Moose, of which Barry was a member, will hold a ritual at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his name in lieu of flowers for Ministry Home Care Hospice.
Barry was born on October 4, 1939, in Duluth, Minn., the son of the late Roderick and Maureen (Barry) Annis. As a child, he moved with his family to Laona, Wis., where Barry graduated from Laona High School in 1957. Barry cherished his childhood years in Laona and often returned to the town for the “Annual Community Soup.” He attended UWSP from 1957 to 1959, and then moved to California where he attended Fullerton Jr. College in 1962-63. In 1961, he married Patricia Holochwost in California. He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Fullerton until 1965, when he moved to Stevens Point. Barry worked as customer service representative at Worzalla Publishing for 37 years, retiring on December 31, 2002. He was an active member of the Employee Credit Union at Worzalla’s for 31 years, holding various officer positions. He married the former Marcia Jean Wnuk in Stevens Point on September 28, 1991. She survives.
Barry derived great pleasure from cooking for family and friends. He also loved planning trips and traveling “the road less traveled.” He had a gift for photography, and his photographs showed his ability to find the beauty in his surroundings.
Barry is survived by his wife, Marcia; three daughters, Rachel (Thomas) Kohn of Eau Claire, Yvonne (Richard) Thompson of Iola and Lisa (Bill) Perreault of Eau Claire; one son, Darren Annis of Bozeman, Mont.; two brothers, Roderick (Gayle) Annis of Hot Springs, Ark., and Matthew (Kathy) Annis of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Maureen (Jim) Hill of Robinson, Ill.; two stepsons, Frank (Roxanne) Tokarski of Point Mugu, Calif., and Jim Tokarski of Madison, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Christine Tokarski of Bozeman, Mont., and Jennifer Tokarski of Stevens Point; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Chelsea, Megan, Rachel, Nicole, Erin and Josie.
