J. Lawrence and Frances were married October 22, 1868, in Collin County, Texas. This marriage date tells us that Frances is not the mother of William, Charles and Josiah but she was listed as Charles's mother on his death certificate so I will leave it that way until I know the name of his birth mother.
When the 1870 U.S. census was recorded, Charles was living with his parents and siblings in Kaufman County, Texas. Also living in the household was his maternal grandmother, Hannah Truly. This census tells us that his father was a minister who was born in Alabama. His mother was born in Mississippi, as was her mother. Charles and all of his siblings, William, Josiah, John and Emily, were born in Texas.
During the time the 1880 U.S. census was recorded, Charles, his parents and his siblings had moved and were living in Hunt County, Texas. Also living in the household was a niece of J. Lawrence and Fannie's, Ella Truly, who was 21 years old and born in Mississippi.
