Alberta "Peaches" Andry 103, Indianapolis, passed away May 9, 2007. She was born Alberta Cecelia, but to many of us she was simply known as "Peaches", a name given to her by son-in-law, Ted Boyd.

Though born in August, Georgia to Lee and Celeste Rogers, she lived most of her life in Evanston, Illinois where she met and married Ernest Andry. She moved to Indianapolis in 1998 and resided with Ted and Barbara. "Peaches" had a very active and full life. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Evanston and was a member of its senior choir over 50 years and was its president for 12 years.

She has visited practically every state in the Union attending Choir Conventions, some under the direction of Thomas A. Dorsey, the author of the song Precious Lord. Under her administration the Senior Choir won several competitions. "Peaches" was also president of Youth Backers, a club that offered scholarships to college bound students. While in her 80's she became a Senior Companion volunteer for 12 years. W

hen asked "what do you do Mrs. Andry", she would snappily reply, "I care for the elderly." Once a week she volunteered at the church feeding the homeless and twice a week attended the Levy and Foster Senior Centers. And, of course, Sunday was church day, after which she and friends would always go out for dinner. She was always fashionably dressed and to the amazement of many wore "3" inch heels until she fell and broke her hip in 2000. "Peaches" was 103 years old and was still mentally alert upon her death May 9, 2007. She enjoyed writing and reciting poetry, listening to good church music, playing Uno and truly enjoyed a hardy party.

Services were entrusted to Stuart Mortuary, Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana.
