HAROLD L. ANDREWS, 98, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Harbour Assisted Living, Fort Wayne. Born in Monroe, he served in the Army. He was one of the oldest living World War II veterans in this area. He was on Normandy Beach on D-Day plus one. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received several medals four of which were bronze stars. After the war, he worked as a printing press operator at Wayne Paper Box & Printing for many years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Leo United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He dearly loved spending time with his family. Surviving are his daughters, Kathleen R. (William) Freimuth of Fort Wayne and Sherrylea A. Suciu of Coca Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert G. Schott of Lebanon, Tenn.; niece, Rosalie Buchwald of Palm Desert, Calif.; and grand-niece, Elizabeth Buchwald of Palm Desert, Calif. Harold was preceded in death by wife, JoeAnna Andrews; parents, Hobart and Ruby (Sautbine) Andrews; and sister, Doris Banks. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
