Departed This Life
John C. Andrews
It is hard to write of one's father "He is dead."

no child is born and grows to mature years, but knows that unless the round of nature is broken, he or she must sometime lay the parent to rest, but the blow is not softened because it is inevitable.

John C. Andrews, our father, was born at Norwalk, Ohio, April 25, 1817, and passed away at 10:30 o'clock, last Sunday night, January 5, at the house of his son Cassian at Erwin, South Dakota, after a brief illness from pneumonia.

The funeral exercises were held on Tuesday, the 7th inst. at the school house which stands upon our brother Cassian's farm. The Rev. John Lewis, pastor of the Union congregation at Erwin officiated. After a hymn "Floating out on the Sea of Eternity," the psalms appointed by the Prayer Book of the Protestant Episcopal church were read, and a brief address followed. The interment was made at the Erwin cemetery, the commital of the Episcopal ritual being used at the grave.

Major "Ves" Rovers, formerly of Fayette, LaFayette Co., Wis., who had known our father for nearly fifty years directed the ceremonies.

He died as he had lived, a pioneer. A more extended notice will appear in a later issue.
