Mr. George David Andrews, 89, of Dallas, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Brodie Ranch Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Austin. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randal Whitt officiating. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

George David was born in Ada, Oklahoma, to the late David Hudson "Duck" and Pauline Andrews. George lived life to the fullest whenever the opportunity presented itself. Having contracted polio when he was two years old, George's life was one of physical struggle, but mental achievement. As one of the first children diagnosed with that disease, he spent much of his youth in the Scottish Rite Hospital. It was here he developed a love for games of chance. He would spend hours playing solitaire and penny poker with the nurses and orderlies. Skills both shared and sharpened by many of his friends and family back in Corsicana. That passion evolved into a love of numbers, and he went on to be one of the first in his family to graduate from college, earning a BFA in accounting from North Texas State University in 1957.

George spent 34 years as an accountant for Continental Battery Company in Dallas. His working days were with Continental, but his nights reserved for a variety of card games, bowling alleys, nightclubs and social halls. He eventually married his childhood sweetheart, Susie Mullican in 1974 and "settled" down into family life. Despite being confined to a wheel chair, George was always quick to tell you his thoughts, and enjoyed his routines. He believed any day was better after a good breakfast, and you should always "bet on the grey horse." George's thoughts were given without filter, as much as his heart given without reserve. His spirit and enthusiasm for life, sporting events and games of chance will be missed. As a fellow believer in Christ, we take comfort in knowing we will see him again one day playing dominoes and cards with friends and family members of long ago.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie.

Survivors include his son, David Andrews and wife, Jennie; granddaughter, Emily Claire Andrews; brother, Bruce "Jerry" Andrews; other relatives and many friends. S15
