Fannie was my mother's sister-in-law. My earliest memories include her cultured Southern accent. Unlike most of us as the years wore on, she never lost that lovely voice and I can hear it in my heart even now. She had an appreciation for antiques and with friends opened a small shop across the street from the Church of Our Savior in Mandarin FL. This church was built by Harriet Beecher Stowe from the funds of "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
Her parents were Labon Sylvanus and Atha Laura Deal of Taylorsville, NC. She had four Siblings, John, Lona, Bessie and Frances.
She married Merrill Holt Andrews and ever after was as genuine an Andrews as anyone else. She added grace and style to that appellation which on ocassion was needed. Merrill and Fannie had one daughter Diana Laura and a grandaughter Carolyn Paige Mudgette.
There has never been a time that I couldn't think of Aunt Fan's house in Jacksonville as an anchor to draw me home in whatever place I was "up country."
Echoes of sound and sight come to me as I drive alone in Jacksonville. There weren't many respectable places in town we didn't know or at least know of.
