Born in Pensacola, FL, son of the late James Ellis Andrews (1899-1993) and Annie Findlay (Smith) Andrews (1904-1988).
A retired US Army veteran of 22 years, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery, began his career serving as the Air Defense Command Choral Group Director; career highlights include two tours in combat, in the Republic of Vietnam, serving first as a Chinook Helicopter pilot and finishing his duties as commander of a Chinook Company.
Concluded his career serving as Professor of Military Science at Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC; then served 17 years in the Laurens School District 55 and later served as the Administrator of Spartanburg Christian Academy.
A member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill and enjoyed music, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Jo (Dooley) Andrews; children, Rachel Childress (Franklin), Scott Andrews (Eva), and Keith Andrews (Monica); daughter-in-law, Kay Andrews; siblings, Annie Louise Andrews Doyle (1921-2016), Ellis Douglas Andrews (1923–2018) and wife Edie, Adrian Glenn Andrews (Betty), and Warren Leon Andrews (1939–2021); and seven grandchildren.
Also preceded in death by his son, Darryl Andrews; and two sisters, Gayll Elsie Andrews White (1926-2014) and Vida Emma Andrews Sutton (1925-2004).
The funeral service was held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, Rock Hill, SC, with Dr. James D. Whitmire officiating.
The family received friends at the funeral home immediately following the service
Burial was at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
