Popular Young Lady Dies After Illness of Week
Miss Marie Andrews Succumbs at Shreveport Hospital Sunday
The death of Miss Bertha Marie Andrews, daughter of Mr. A. L. Andrews, and one of Jena's well known and popular young ladies, caused a shock to her many friends when news of her untimely passing in a Shreveport hospital reached here Sunday morning. Miss Andrews had been in training at the Charity Hospital two years and one day at the time of her death, which was the result of pneumonia. She was sick for only one week.
Her father went to Shreveport when appraised of his daughter's condition and remained with here until the end came at 5 o'clock Sunday morning.
The body was brought to Jena Sunday afternoon and funeral services were held from the local Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev L. D. Posey, pastor, officiating. The large crowd and the banks of beautiful floral offerings both from Shreveport friends and from Jena people who had known and loved Miss Andrews bespoke the high esteem in which she was held.
Two nurses of the hospital where Miss Andrews was in training accompanied the body to Jena and remained with it until it was placed in its last resting place in Nolley Memorial Cemetery Monday afternoon.
Besides her father and step-mother, Miss Andrews is survived by one sister, Mrs. Irene Lester, of Mansfield, and one brother, Williard Andrews of Jena.
Thanks to Eva Merryman.
