Mellissa Anne Andrew, 17, of Avon, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, (August 5, 2010). Born in Providence, RI, she was raised in Avon and was to begin her senior year at Avon High School. Mellissa was an honor roll student who was passionate about cross-country running and received numerous varsity letters and a scholar/athlete award. She was chosen to serve as co-captain of the AHS cross-country team this coming school year. She was an accomplished snowboarder in winter and water skier in summer. Mellissa was very dedicated to helping children, especially those with disabilities, and she worked with the Peer Support Club at AHS. She was a volunteer for Special Olympics and an active member of Church of St. Ann. Mellissa is survived by her mother, Anne Marie (MacFaddin) Piehl and step father Alfred of Avon; and her father, Leland E. Andrew, Jr. and step mother, Sandra of Narragansett, RI; siblings, Nicole Andrew, Mckenzie Piehl and Aidan Piehl, all of Avon; step sisters, Ashley Dentler and Chelsea Dentler; grandparents, Patricia A. MacFaddin of Avon and Leland E. Andrew, Sr. of Cranston, RI; uncles and aunts, Douglas and Susan MacFaddin, R. Stuart and Beverly MacFaddin, Megan and Eric Ouellette, M.
