Ernest R. Andes, 78, Brooklyn, died Saturday night, May 27, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.
Services were held May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Kalen K. Fristad officiating. Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery.
Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ernest Richard Andes, son of Isaac and Jennie Williams Andes, was born Feb. 11, 1916, on a farm near Brooklyn.
He received his education in a rural school and the Brooklyn High School, graduating in 1933. He served with the U.S. Army in WWII from 1943 to 1946. Later he sold Ford autos for a couple of years in Brooklyn and Victor. He was a Standard Oil Agent and operated Andes Oil Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1974. He farmed for ten years with his brother Charles.
On Dec. 15, 1937, he was married to Miriam Helm in her parents' home in Brooklyn. She died Nov. 15, 1963.
On Nov. 5, 1964, he was married to Mirriam Hall in Grinnell.
Mr. Andes was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, K.P. Lodge, IOOF Lodge, Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294, Hawkeye Engine Club, the Flywheel Club and Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Club. He had served on the city council in Brooklyn and was a trustee of Brooklyn Municipal Utilities.
He is survived by his wife, Mirriam; one son, Larry of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Karen Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz.; three step-daughters, Carol, Mrs. Loren Roudabush of Brooklyn, Linda, Mrs. Allan Blazicek of West Des Moines, and Lee Ann Mitchell of Wilmette, Ill.; two brothers, Charles of Brooklyn and Harold of Grinnell; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Holifield of Brooklyn and June, Mrs. Morris Douglas of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Miriam Helm Andes, and one brother, Wayne.
