Donald Wesley Anderson was born on June 22, 1933, on the family farm near Dalton, Minnesota, the son of Ludvig and Mathilda (Gunderson) Anderson. He grew up on the farm where he received his primary school education at a small country school. Don went on to graduate high school from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. After he graduated from high school he was employed by the O. K. Construction Co. of St. Paul. There he installed telephone and power lines in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Kansas. In 1952, Don entered the United States Army. After the completion of his military obligation he returned to Minnesota and enrolled in the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He earned his Bachelor Degree in June of 1960, and began working for Travelers Insurance Company. While working days Don attended night classes at William Mitchell College of Law. Don continued working at Travelers Insurance Company for 37 retiring in 1997.
On September 23, 1966, Don was united in marriage to Dixie Freese, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This union was blessed with two sons. The family made their home in Richfield from 1966-1972, when they moved to Bloomington. In 2003, Don and Dixie moved to Paynesville where they enjoyed retirement.
Don was a member of Paynesville Lutheran Church, the Paynesville American Legion Post #271, Paynesville Lions Club, and the Koronis Hills Golf Course. He served on the Board of Trustees at Koronis Hills Golf Course and as an officer at the Paynesville Lions Club. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, golfing, fishing, and hunting with family and friends. He also enjoyed family gatherings of both his family and Dixie’s family. After his retirement Don enjoyed working on his family farm which he owned.
Donald W. Anderson died on Monday September 14, 2015, at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska. He is survived by his sons, Derek (Kristie), of Grapevine, TX, and Dustin (Courtney) of Victoria, MN; 4 grandchildren, Nicklas, Benjamin, Cambelle, and Lucas; sister, Lucille of Bellingham WA; brother, Melvin of Fergus Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews;
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie; infant sister, Lucille; sisters, Nellie, Marjorie and Oletta; and his brother, Lyle.
